Social groups

HVHS has the following Social clubs and societies available, and these groups will have a display with more information at the Sports, Clubs and Performing Arts Expo at the start of each year.


Anime and Manga club 

Staff contact – Sarah Langley

Anime club meets once a week to watch anime movies, discuss anime characters and have

lots of fun. This is open to all students.


Board Games club 

Staff contact – Heather Lear

The Board Games club is for students who want to meet and play in a quiet and relaxed

environment. Some games will be provided but students are also welcome to bring their

own games to play with others.


Cornerstone Christian Group

Staff contact - Philippa Plewinski

This group of students meet for worship, prayer, bible study and discussion. All are most

welcome to come along.


Dungeons and Dragons

Staff contact – Marcus Blomquist

Come join us for Dungeons and Dragons every week! Ranging in experience from brand new to any kind of gaming to peers with years of gameplay, all our welcome. The cost is free, we have all of the resources.


Embroidery Club

Staff contact – Alice Alva

Embroidery club is open to all students who have an interest in needlework and cross stitch.

You will learn different stitching techniques and styles using a range of repurposed materials.


Emergency Support Crew

Staff contact – Hugh Williams

Learn life skills and attend leadership training in a team-based fun environment. Learn a

range of emergency-related skills including reconnaissance skills; knot-tying skills; first aid

skills; stretcher rescue skills etc. Students are also able to earn credits if they pass the courses

run by Civil Defence personnel. Represent HVHS at the ‘Valley Shield’ Competition between

schools from across the Greater Valley region using the skills learnt at training days. Support

HVHS staff at school evacuation drills, as directed. 

Green Fingers Horticultural Club

Staff contacts – Richard Edwards and Leonore Hoke

Growing plants throughout the year. Prepare and plant your winter crops during Term 1

(broccoli, lettuce, radishes, broad beans, potatoes, silverbeet, cabbages....) and summer

crops (corn, strawberries....) in Term 4 and harvest! Make use of our raised beds, tool shed &

glass house.


Queer Straight Alliance

Staff contact – Jill Skinner

This is a group for students who identify as queer including lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans,

asexual, takatapui, fa’afafine, intersex and gender non-conforming students. We also have

many cisgender, straight allies who are here to support their friends. Our aim is to provide

a social space, a support network, and to work together to make our school and wider

community more inclusive for students of gender and sexual minorities.
