Schedule of delegations
Rationale
To ensure the effective governance and management of the School, the Board has specified its delegations to the Principal and Board committees in its governance policies and the terms of reference for Board committees.
However, there are a small number of areas in which the Board retains responsibility.
Guidelines
The Board retains the following responsibilities to it self, and reserves the right to delegate various of these functions to the Principal. Any decision affecting these named areas must be discussed with the Chair at the weekly meeting.
- approval of all operating, capital, cash-flow and property maintenance budgets, and amendments to these budgets
- the appointment of any permanent staff in excess of positions funded by the Ministry of Education salaries grant, and the terms and conditions on which they are employed
- the termination of employment of any paid employee
- approving applications for grants for additional buildings
- formal communication and agreements with the Minister of Education and other ministers of the crown or members of parliament
- responses to the Secretary of Education or any other permanent head of a government department which was initiated by a report, written communication, request for information or required declaration addressed to the Board of Trustees or Board Chairperson
- the initiation of any legal action, and any communication in relation to these actions
- signature of any formal or legal agreement in the name of the School
