HVHS Learning Environment
Learning at Hutt Valley High School will be collaborative, reflective and relevant.
Each individual learner will be offered challenging and varied learning opportunities.
Teaching and learning at HVHS is guided by the 'Connected Curriculum'. This document was developed for the following purposes:
- to clarify the school’s priority areas of focus for teaching and learning.
- to clarify the school’s priorities for teacher professional development.
- to embed best practice in all classrooms.
The vision of the school is to provide a stimulating environment that offers opportunity, diversity and a strong sense of community for our students and staff.
The New Zealand Curriculum’s vision is that all students leave school as confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners.
The school’s newly developed strategic plan identified the following values as central to HVHS:
Citizenship; Excellence; Diversity; Innovation and Respect
The Teaching and Learning Team identifies the following factors as primary influences on the decisions we make at HVHS: research-based knowledge of effective pedagogical practice; the hauora of the individual student; and the growth of digital innovations in an increasingly networked world.
